Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles and produced 464,391 in the third quarter of 2026, and deployed 13.7 GWh of energy storage products. The figures come from a press release furnished with a Form 8-K on October 2, 2026. Below, that release is set beside Tesla’s four previous ones, by model line, with the gap between what Tesla built and what it delivered.
TL;DR
- Deliveries 486,532, production 464,391, storage 13.7 GWh. Deliveries were down 2.1% from Q3 2025 and up 1.3% from Q2 2026; production was up 3.8% and 2.8% (our arithmetic on Tesla’s releases).
- Most of the year-on-year drop sits in “Other Models.” Of the 10,567 fewer deliveries than a year earlier, 7,638 came from Other Models and 2,929 from Model 3/Y (our arithmetic). Other Models deliveries were 8,295, down 47.9%.
- Production and deliveries nearly match so far this year. Tesla delivered 22,141 more vehicles than it built in Q3 and 28,368 more in Q2, after building 50,363 more than it delivered in Q1. Over nine months, the gap is 146 vehicles (our arithmetic).
What happened
The 8-K reports under Item 2.02 (Results of Operations and Financial Condition) and lists the press release as Exhibit 99.1 under Item 9.01 (Financial Statements and Exhibits). Tesla states that the information is “furnished,” not “filed,” under the Exchange Act. The release gives three totals and a two-line table: Model 3/Y and “Other Models.” Tesla will post Q3 financial results after market close on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, with a Q&A webcast at 4:30 p.m. Central Time, according to the release.
Analyst expectations, as reported by the outlets: Tesla published a company-compiled consensus of 461,974 deliveries on Tuesday, September 29, CNBC and Drive Tesla Canada reported. According to Drive Tesla Canada, it drew on 24 analysts and firms, split into 450,712 Model 3/Y and 11,285 other vehicles, and the company-compiled storage consensus, from 19 analysts, was 15.9 GWh. CNBC cited a StreetAccount consensus of about 461,100 deliveries. Reuters cited a Visible Alpha average estimate of 456,896. Reported deliveries were 24,558 above Tesla’s company-compiled figure, and storage was 2.2 GWh below its 15.9 GWh (our arithmetic).

Sources: Tesla quarterly production, deliveries and deployments releases (Exhibit 99.1 to Forms 8-K filed Oct 2, 2025; Jan 2, Apr 2, Jul 2 and Oct 2, 2026). The Q4 2025 release called its 14.2 GWh “a record for deployments”; the Q3 2025 release called that quarter “a record for both deliveries and deployments.”
1. Model 3/Y is nearly flat on the year; Other Models is not. Model 3/Y deliveries were 478,237, down 0.6% from Q3 2025 and up 2.2% from Q2. Model 3/Y production was 457,387, the highest of the seven quarters we compared (Q1 2025 through Q3 2026). Other Models deliveries were 8,295, the lowest of those seven quarters, and Model 3/Y was 98.3% of all deliveries, up from 96.8% a year earlier (our arithmetic).
2. The release does not say what “Other Models” contains. Tesla’s 2025 10-K describes Model S, Model X and Cybertruck alongside Model 3 and Model Y. Electrek wrote that the line “now means the Cybertruck, the Semi, and whatever Model S and Model X inventory is left.” Other Models production fell to 7,004, down 39.7% from a year earlier and 20.6% from Q2 (our arithmetic).
3. One new sentence. The Q3 2026 release ends: “Vehicle production and delivery numbers represent passenger vehicles sold to customers.” That sentence does not appear in any of the six previous releases we checked (Q1 2025 to Q2 2026). The release does not say whether the counting method changed or whether earlier quarters were prepared on the same basis.
4. The disclaimer is unchanged. Each of the seven releases we checked calls deliveries and storage deployments “only two measures” of Tesla’s financial performance and warns readers not to treat them as a guide to quarterly results.
The production-delivery gap
Production minus deliveries is a rough proxy, not an inventory figure Tesla reports; Tesla reports inventory on the balance sheet in its 10-Q and 10-K filings. With that caveat, the five-quarter pattern is a swing: deliveries ran ahead of production by 49,649 in Q3 2025, then production ran ahead in Q4 2025 and especially Q1 2026, and deliveries ran ahead again in Q2 and Q3 2026.
Nine-month totals, from the same releases:
| Jan–Sep 2025 | Jan–Sep 2026 | Change (our arithmetic) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deliveries | 1,217,902 | 1,324,681 | +8.8% |
| Production | 1,220,309 | 1,324,535 | +8.5% |
| Production minus deliveries | +2,407 | −146 | |
| Energy storage deployed | 32.5 GWh | 36.0 GWh | +10.8% |

Tesla’s Q4 2025 release put full-year 2025 deliveries at 1,636,129. Fourth-quarter 2026 deliveries of 311,448 would bring 2026 level with that (our arithmetic). Reuters reported the same threshold and wrote that annual sales had fallen for two straight years.
Energy storage
Storage deployments were 13.7 GWh, up 9.6% from a year earlier and 1.5% from Q2, and below the 14.2 GWh record of Q4 2025. Across the five quarters, the low point was 8.8 GWh in Q1 2026. CNBC wrote that the products include Megapack and Megablock systems. The release gives no product split.
Background
Tesla published each release in the table on the second day after the quarter ended (October 2, January 2, April 2 and July 2), weeks before its full results. CNBC noted that deliveries are the closest approximation of sales Tesla reports but are not precisely defined in its shareholder communications.
The year-ago quarter, at 497,099 deliveries, is the highest in the table. The US federal EV tax credit ended after September 30, 2025, and Electrek wrote that US buyers rushed to claim it in Q3 2025. Reuters attributed the Q3 2026 result to a recovery in Europe that made up for weaker demand in the US and China, and reported that exports from Tesla’s Shanghai factory nearly doubled in July and August.
Days before this release, Tesla reported $30 billion of new, undrawn bank facilities; see our 8-K explainer on the credit facilities. For Tesla’s filings and quarterly numbers, see the Tesla company hub, Tesla earnings and Tesla insider filings. More: Markets & Policy.
What could go right / What could go wrong

- Storage deployments were up 10.8% over nine months.
What could go wrong
- Other Models deliveries were 8,295, down 47.9% on the year and the lowest of the seven quarters compared.
- Storage was 2.2 GWh below the 15.9 GWh in Tesla’s company-compiled consensus, as reported by Drive Tesla Canada, and below the Q4 2025 record.
- Tesla warns that delivery counts are not a guide to its quarterly financial results, which arrive on October 21.
