Section 232 tariffs on medium- and heavy-duty trucks, truck parts and buses
In effect (status checked Oct 16, 2026, the last day we checked the Federal Register for later documents).
Proclamation 10984 (90 FR 48451): “and shall continue in effect, unless such actions are expressly reduced, modified, or terminated.”
Proclamation 10984 imposes a section 232 duty of 25% on imported medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, such as trucks, and on the truck parts listed in its Annex I, and 10% on buses and other vehicles in HTSUS heading 8702, for entries from 12:01 a.m. eastern daylight time on November 1, 2025. The duties are in addition to other duties. USMCA-qualifying trucks can pay the 25% only on non-U.S. content once Commerce approves, and USMCA-qualifying individual parts are not charged until Commerce publishes a non-U.S.-content process. Vehicles made at least 25 years before entry are excluded. U.S. truck manufacturers can claim an offset equal to 3.75% of the value of trucks they assemble in the United States through October 31, 2030. Stacking follows the rules for the automobile tariffs.
